The Iowa Council for International Understanding has been providing
translation services in the state of Iowa for over thirty years.
With over 100 translators and interpreters fluent in more than 40
languages and dialects, we have been able to help companies, government
agencies, non-profit organizations, and individuals overcome language
barriers. The large majority of our translators and interpreters
are native speakers with work and life experience in both their
native country and in the U.S. This allows us to provide not only
the language expertise but also interpreters and translators who
understand the cultural aspects of communication, which is essential
for successful interactions with people from different countries
and cultures.
All translators and interpreters are carefully interviewed and
selected after a survey of language skills and review of their experience.
Most of our translators and interpreters have participated in a
variety of training programs and are prepared to provide high
quality translations and interpretation.
Whether you need an interpreter in court, the classroom, at the
doctor’s office, or in the workplace; translation of materials
to expand your business into foreign markets, official documents
or other types of written communication, or transcription of cassette
or video tapes; or have other language related needs, ICIU’s
translators and interpreters are ready to help you overcome language
barriers.
ICIU works with a large pool of qualified translators to provide
you with accurate translation or written documents from English
to other languages and vice versa. All translators are carefully
interviewed and selected after a survey of language skills and review
of their experience. Many of our translators have participated in
a variety of training programs and are prepared to provide high
quality translations.
Whether you need translation of materials to expand your business
into foreign markets, official documents or other types of written
communication, transcription of cassette or video tapes or have
other language related needs, ICIU’s translators are ready
to help you overcome language barriers. Examples of past translation

Rates/Cost Estimates/Time Required
Costs vary based upon language, technicality of material, and urgency.
Generally, charges are determined by a per word rate that ranges
from $.15 to $.40 per word, again based upon language and technicality.
To provide a cost estimate, we would review the material to be translated
first. The time required to complete a translation will also vary
based upon volume of material, language, and technicality. You will
be provided with a completion date with the cost estimate. Rush
fees may be applied to projects that require a quicker turnaround
time than originally quoted.
Submit Material for a Cost Estimate
In order to provide you cost estimate, we request that you send
a copy of the original document in one of the following
ways:
1. The preferred way is to e-mail the document as an attachment
to: translation@iciu.org.
Microsoft Word has proven to be the best software for this. However,
most other software programs are acceptable.
2. Fax your documents to: 515-282-0454.
3. Overnight, mail, or messenger to our office: ICIU, 929 Third
Street, Suite 203, Des Moines, IA 50309.
Once your documents are received, we will send you an e-mail or
call to verify that we have received your request for a cost estimate
and to gather any further needed information about your translation.
Please note that if you send us the documents as an e-mail attachment,
it speeds up the process. Once we complete the evaluation of your
project, we will provide a cost estimate for your review.
